2024 Centennial Awards for Excellence | Selection Guidelines

Submission Format

Please consider nominating an exceptional colleague or team for a Centennial Award for Excellence. These awards are given to individuals and/or teams that go “above and beyond” the scope of their duties. Because nominee contributions may fit several of the categories recognized with Centennial Awards, you may nominate an individual or team in more than one category. On the nomination form, please check all applicable categories (Service, Leadership, and/or Spirit). This change will help ensure a strong pool of applicants in all categories.

Nominees must:

  1. be current permanent full-time employees of East Carolina University as a member of the faculty, staff, or administration.
  2. not have been a previous recipient of a Founders Award, a Synergy Award, the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence or a Centennial Award for Excellence (see list of previous recipients of any of these awards). A recipient may not receive an award in more than one category.
  3. have demonstrated a commitment to the institution through exceptional performance in one of the following areas:

i.   Service— is defined as excellent or exceptional service to the institution over a sustained period of time with attention to a devotion to duty and an awareness of the importance of public service. The sustained period of time, in this case, is a minimum of seven years of excellent service.
ii.   Leadership— is defined as persons having provided servant leadership in a particular task, set of tasks, or for a particular activity that represents an understanding and respect for accomplishment against challenges and performed with resolve, perseverance, and/or an appreciation for inclusion.
iii.   Spirit— is defined as that sense of being that embodies an enthusiasm for the purpose, mission and belief in the institution and that acts on that enthusiasm for the benefit of ECU. Examples include various acts including those of safety and heroism, exemplary and/or distinctive behaviors of human relations, acts of kindness, etc.
